Abstract:
Galaxies are the building blocks of the universe, tracing the luminous large scale structure and its evolution over cosmic time. Their evolution is dictated by the complex interplay between mass growth through mergers and environmental effects. In this talk I will present recent results from a morphometric analysis of JWST data of the COSMOS field, that, thanks to their supreme depth and resolution, allow to study galaxies till z=6 and identify the moment where the environment kicks in. I will complement this work with kinematics data of planetary nebulae (PNe) in low z galaxies. Discrete tracers, as PNe, allow to trace the galaxy kinematics in their faint outer parts, where signs of interactions and accretion are significant. They also allow to recover the kinematics of galaxies components and decipher the role of bulge growth and bars in shaping galaxies morphologies and evolution.
