Abstract: I will describe ongoing studies of three sources, where radiative transfer modelling is a central part of the analysis. The dust emission of the Orion Molecular Cloud 3 was previously examined with Spitzer and Herschel observations, and the next steps include the study of small-scale cloud structures, now with JWST data. The second target is the fragmented prestellar core G205-M3, for which the dust polarisation has been mapped with ALMA. The final example is the high-latitude cloud MBM-12. In this case we are modelling both the spectral lines and dust emission, to test if this combination is able to remove some degeneracies inherent to the models. I will end the talk by touching on plans for automated analysis pipelines that could be built around radiative transfer programs.
CV: Dr. Mika Juvela is a senior university lecturer at the Department of Physics, University of Helsinki. His research focuses on the interstellar medium and star formation, particularly the structure and physical properties of molecular clouds, interstellar dust, and radiative transfer modelling. He has extensive experience in combining astronomical observations with numerical modelling and radiative transfer modelling to study the physical conditions of molecular clouds and star-forming regions.
