Black hole candles and observational tests
Title: Black hole candles and observational tests
Speaker: Jian-Min Wang (IHEP)
Time & Place: Thursday, 3:00pm, June 5th, Lecture Hall, 3rd floor
Abstract: Super-Eddington accretion onto black holes tends to a saturated luminosity. This unique properties allow astronomers to use them as standard candles. I will review observational tests on super-Eddington accretion, and give latest results of black hole candles.
Biog: Wang Jian-min, born in Hebei Province in June of 1965, joined IHEP under "The Hundred Talents Program" in 1999. He graduated and got his B.S. degree from the Department of Applied Physics, University of Science and Technology of National Defence in 1987, and he got his M.S. degree at Yunnan Observatory of CAS in 1990. He got his Ph.D degree at University of Science and Technology of China in 1995. Now he is full professor, tutor of Ph.D students, vice chairman of the Academic Degree Committee and member of the Science committee of IHEP and vice chairman of High Energy Astrophysics Committee under the Chinese Astronomical Society.
