AIRE-Linux is a dedicated Linux system derived from Debian for astronomers. Modern astronomy faces two big challenges: massive observed raw data which covers the whole electromagnetic spectrum, and overmuch professional data processing skill which exceeds personal or even a small team's abilities. AIRE-Linux introduces mature practice of free and open source software community to astronomers to confront the challenges.
The AIRE-Linux group works closely with Debian astronomy group to contribute high quality astronomy packages to Debian.
AIRE-Linux is distributed to users by Virtual Machine (VM) images in Open Virtualization Format (OVF). Currently, a Beta version is ready for download and testing. The support for supercomputers will also be discussed.
