Post-doctoral fellowship position for Square Kilometre Array (SKA) SDP发布时间:2016-08-04 来源: 浏览:Applications are invited for a Post-doctoral Fellowship position for a period of two years (renewable at the end of second year on satisfactory performance) based at Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO), Shanghai. The position is funded by the China Square Kilometre Array (SKA) pre-research grants, and the selected candidate will work at, and be part of SHAO SKA science data processing team. The position is available immediately, and on contract basis. Eligibility: 1. Ph.D. degree in Astronomy/Astrophysics/Computer Science and Engineering or a related discipline. Candidate who has submitted the Ph.D. thesis is also eligible to apply. 2. Experience in astronomical data analysis, especially in the radio domain is preferred. 3. Experience in programming languages such as Python, C, C++ and Java is needed. 4. Good oral and written communication skills in English are necessary. The fellowship is according to the qualification and experience of the candidates. Deadline for application: September 30, 2016 or till the position is filled, whichever is later. Job description: The SKA Science Data Processing team in Shanghai Astronomy Observatory was established in November 2014. Prof. Xiangping Wu, the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Science (CAS), is the principal scientist of the Team; Senior Academician Shuhua Ye acts as the Consultant; Prof. Tao An is the Administrative Head. The Scientific Research of the Team covers: 1. Actively participate in the large international collaborative science projects, the Square Kilometre Array (SKA, http://www.skatelescope.org, http://china.skatelescope.org/welcome/); Participating the SKA Science Data Processor work package; 2. Develop cutting-edge radio astronomy technologies and data processing techniques; investigate the low-frequency radio calibration and imaging techniques; investigate Data-Intensive Astronomical applications and the related Big Data, High Performance Computing, large volume storage techniques; 3. Concept study of the SKA regional center; 4. Prompt Space-based radio astronomy projects, including the Discovering the Sky at the Longest Wavelengths (DSL), Space Decimeter Wave VLBI project, Space millimeter wave VLBI array (SMVA).
